A modern interpretation of Sudare

I have a deep admiration for traditional Japanese Sudare and my passionate appreciation motivated me to try to imagine a way to introduce them in contemporary western spaces.

Sudare

Unlike ancient Japan, in the West we can find windows with particular shapes: round, arched, triangular. Modern Sudare should be adjustable to those outlines too. Moreover, why not try using them as screens to cover bookcases and walk-in closets, or to fill the empty framework of folding screens with bamboo?

The aim is to create products that can be used in daily life and can be easily integrated into a contemporary lifestyle and interior.

Sudare

Open to a mix of styles, my modern interpretation of Sudare aims to be the result of a perfect balance between innovation and tradition, an elegant mix which does not betray this ancient craft roots.
The Japanese bamboo can be combined with materials from other geographical areas, European or others. In this way, the finished product celebrates and revives traditional crafting techniques and processes, removing geographical and temporal limitations.

The creative process leading to the production of a new Sudare takes on a fundamental role. It is a sort of collaboration between me and my customers, whether they are architects, interior designers or the final client. Each conversation leads to new ideas, solutions and advancements. Each customer creates their own Sudare, personalizing it to fit their taste and specifications, thus making it truly unique.
